Carnegie Part 2

Reading the second half of this book, began with six different principles of how to be liked. Ultimately, we know how to make people like us, but how can we use these techniques to improve? These techniques can help us establish ourselves as stronger in communication between others. That first conversation you have with someone can make a difference. How can you come off as nice? How can you come off as being interested in the conversation? How can you be a good listener? How can you hold a conversation with no similar interests? Overall, how can you win a friend over the conversation?

Having a conversation for the first time can either be nerve racking or the total opposite. You generally start off by introducing yourselves with a SMILE. Always use their name to make them feel valued. Carnegie said, “remembering a person’s name is the sweetest and most important sound in any language.” Their name is what defines and reflects them. Be engaged in the conversation. Find an interest to talk about. Avoid talking about you. If you proceed to only talk about yourself, this will end the conversation most probably. Talk about something whether it is sports, TV shows, or hobbies; there will be a spark. It can be done in a professional way, make them feel like their time is valued. Smiling can make a difference. It shows them that you are happy for whatever the reason may be. Reflecting on being interested in the conversation listening is essential. This can be difficult at times but asking questions engages the conversation.

These principles are all essential because first impressions have a significant impact. If you greet the person with a smile, engage in the conversation with interests, and ask questions more than likely it will have a good result.

After all, a simple conversation can create additional exchanges in the future. How can I engage to make sure they are listening to YOU? How can you make an impact that you like the same interests? How can a smile be beneficial? If all else fails, just Carnegie them!
